Local Office Assists Job Hunters

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
Security in the work place has almost become a thing of the past. Most people have more than one or two friends who are currently looking for a job. So many businesses have downsized, or are in the process, and are continually looking for ways to cut the overhead and increase the bottom line.

The competition for positions is stiff, and the number applying for each job opening is staggering.

The Career Resource Center, part of the Atlanta Regional Commission Workforce Board , is a one-stop center for those truly seeking to get back into the workforce and stay there.

The basic services offered at the Center include:

  • Help with finding a job and job matching
  • Resume preparation
  • Workshops on how to develop interview skills and how to look for a job
  • How to use computers to prepare resumes and assist with job searches
  • Access to computers and general office equipment to prepare cover letters, make copies of your resume, and fax and e-mail your resume to prospective employers
For those needing more advanced training equipping them to return to work, there is assistance with financial aid planning including applying for PELL grants, HOPE scholarships and Workforce Investment Act (WIA) financial assistance to pay for additional training. Free training may be available through an Individual Training Account (ITA) to cover approved training and education expenses. Training is approved for jobs and occupations that are considered to be “in demand”. Other eligibility requirements apply for training assistance.

"The McDonough office is open every Wednesday, and we average seeing about twenty Henry County residents on a weekly basis wanting either additional training or assistance with their resume preparation," said Angela Jenkins, Career Advisor at the Henry County office which is located at 333 Phillips Drive, McDonough. They are in the same building as Connecting Henry.

Wednesday mornings are reserved for training while the afternoons is open to clients wanting to come in to work on their resumes, use the computers, or do other research using the materials available at the Center.

Morning training sessions require an appointment. To schedule a meeting with an interviewer and begin the orientation and testing process, call 770-473-2121 or go to the ARC website at www.atlantaregional.com/workforcesolutions .
