The McDonough Police Department currently has 41 full time certified and 5 non-certified employees and is staffed by three shifts of uniformed patrol officers working 6:00 a.m.-2:00 p.m., 2:00 p.m.-10:00 p.m. and 10 p.m.-6:00 a.m. These officers respond to routine calls for service and enforce the traffic laws of the city.

The Department conducts all phases of investigations which include criminal, narcotics and all vice crime investigations utilizing 5 full time investigators and 2 narcotics investigators. The narcotics investigators have created a multi-jurisdictional drug task force that includes the cities of Hampton and Locust Grove. Board members of the Flint Judicial Drug Task Force include Henry County District Attorney Tommy Floyd and State Court Solicitor General Chuck Spahos.

The McDonough Police Department has reinstated its Canine Unit utilizing two certified officers who have additional training specific to canine handling. These K-9 officers are used on both uniformed patrol calls as well as in conjunction with the Drug Task Force.
