05-30-09 McDonough’s Water Pollution Control Plant

Recognized Again for Outstanding Facility Operations

The City of McDonough’s Walnut Creek Water Pollution Control Plant, located on Turner Church Road, has once again received the prestigious Gold Award from the Georgia Association of Water Professionals (GAWP) in recognition of complete and consistent compliance with stringent water quality permit requirements for the calendar year 2008.

Gold and Platinum Awards are presented annually in recognition of municipalities that are able to maintain the exceptionally high standards of water quality required by their individual permits. The GAWP Gold and Platinum Awards Program also acknowledges and congratulates municipalities for their stewardship and dedication to keeping Georgia’s water safe.

“The Gold Award, for consistent compliance to the State’s rigorous water quality permit requirements for 2008, recognizes the efforts of all the employees at the Walnut Creek WPCP,” said plant Operations Manager Keith Dickerson. “It’s a difficult job to keep the plant in compliance for an entire year, and we make that our number one goal each year.” He further explained that providing a high treatment level for wastewater gives users cleaner and healthier streams, sources of the City’s drinking water.

“This award is a result of the efficient management of Keith Dickerson and the hard work of the men in his department,” stated Mayor Billy Copeland. “Their pride and dedication to their responsibilities are always evident and, in that regard, I applaud them for another job well done,” the Mayor added.

“It is imperative that municipalities inform their citizenry of the exceptional progress our industry has made in environmental protection. GAWP is honored to recognize pace-setting performances in the water resource field as this leadership is essential to a prosperous future for all Georgians,” said GAWP Executive Director Jack Dozier.
