01-08-09 Kris Cawley with Harry Norman Receives Façade Reimbursement Check

Kris Cawley, Broker for Harry Norman Realtors in McDonough, has accomplished something that has long been desired by those who value history and preservation.  Ms.  Cawley has completely restored the Hamilton Building on the Square at 19 Griffin Street to its original look and beauty minus the third floor level.

The Hamilton Building is now home to Harry Norman Realtors, but Ms. Cawley is not done yet.  Planning continues on the building’s basement and second story.  She was able to apply and was approved for a special lower interest business loan through the city’s Downtown Development Authority (DDA).  “We are so proud of what this project means to the City of McDonough.  It has brought such a beautiful building back to life, and the DDA is proud to have played a part in the process,” said DDA Chairperson Sandra Vincent.

Mayor Copeland also expressed his pride in this restoration, “The Hamilton Building has had a long and great history on our Square and, in that regard, I appreciate and applaud the investment that Mrs. Cawley has made relative to such an attractive restoration.”

On January 8th, Mayor Copeland, DDA members and Main Street Advisory Board and Committee members were in attendance as DDA Chair Vincent, Main Street Director Schenk and Advisory Board Chair Lee Freeman presented the Façade Reimbursement check to Ms. Cawley for the restoration of this building.

The Façade Grant Improvement Program is a reimbursement grant offered to businesses and commercial property owners located within the Main Street District.  Through this program, applicants may be reimbursed up to 50% of the cost of improved renovations not to exceed a maximum amount of $2500 per applicant.  Reimbursements are based on availability of funds.

After accepting the check, Ms. Cawley expressed the importance she puts on her new business location, “I felt it was important to be on this Square.  After relocating to this building on the Square, my business has flourished.  She added, “I can also look out my front window and enjoy this beautiful picture.”

Harry Norman Realtors is open Monday through Friday 8:30 a.m.—5:30 p.m.  An agent is always on call on weekends.  For more information call 770-954-0200.
