12-15-08 Winning Christmas Parade Floats Recognized at Council Meeting

During the December 15th McDonough City Council meeting, Mayor Billy Copeland recognized the First, Second and Third Place winners among the float entries in the 2008 McDonough Christmas Parade.

Third Place was a tie between Primrose School at Eagle’s Landing and New Creation Center. Accepting the check from Mayor Copeland for Primrose School were Director Teresa Rains; Assistant Director Christie Rains-Smith; and Curriculum Specialist Stacy Sinnemon. Ms. Sinnemon said the children riding on the float had so much fun that they wanted to come back and do it all over again. No representatives from New Creation Center were present at Monday’s City Council meeting.

Carol Kelley, Executive Director of Praying for Paws, Inc., accepted the Second Place check and explained a little about what this organization does on behalf of animals that need to be cared for until a loving home is found and they are adopted. Ms. Kelley also informed those present that they now take the pets of deployed service men and women when the pet cannot go with them. She also added that the current economy has forced many owners to give up their beloved pets due to the inability to take care of and feed them.

Mayor Copeland presented First Place honors and check to Joan Angelini for the Mr. and Miss Special Henry County and Mr. and Miss Teen Special Henry County Christmas float. Also in attendance were Mr. Special Henry County Doug Caswell; Miss Special Henry County Kristi Mills; Mr. Teen Special Henry County Noah Murphy; and Miss Teen Special Henry County Stevie Mueller. Denny Mills, father of Kristi Mills, and designer of their winning float, was also in attendance and recognized.

Mayor Copeland stated that is was such a joy to have these young people in the 2008 Christmas Parade, and because of their efforts, and the efforts of the other participants, this year’s parade was a great success.
