New Community Development Director

Kathy_Field.jpgThe position of Community Development Director for the City of McDonough has been filled by a very qualified candidate, Kathy Field, bringing with her, over 30 years of experience in the area of planning.

Ms. Field’s most recent position was that of Community Development Director for the City of Roswell, Georgia. Her responsibilities there included administrative oversight over comprehensive planning, economic development initiatives, code enforcement, building inspection, engineering and land disturbance, and GIS. Prior to the position with Roswell, Ms. Field served as Planning Director for the Boston Housing Authority, Boston, Massachusetts.

For the past six years, Ms. Field has served as a member of the Board of Directors of the Georgia Planning Association and is currently serving the second year of a two year term as the Chairman of the Board of Directors for Senior Services North Fulton. This non-profit agency is charged with providing in-home services, including Meals on Wheels, to seniors. In addition, it operates several neighborhood centers providing programs and congregate meals for frail elderly citizens.

The City’s new Community Development Director grew up in Providence, Rhode Island and attended college and graduate school at Trinity College (now Trinity Washington University) in Washington, DC and The George Washington University, earning a BA in Political Science and a Master's Degree in Urban and Regional Planning respectively.

Ms. Field and her husband currently reside in Johns Creek, Georgia. They have one daughter who lives in San Francisco. “My hobbies include antiquing and gourmet cooking. The more stressed I am, the more complex the meal,” quipped the City’s newest department head.

Regarding her new position with the City of McDonough, Ms. Field stated, “I am very pleased that I will be able to use my vast experience in the planning field to assist the City with its many challenges and opportunities. I look forward to meeting and working with all of the various constituents within McDonough.“
