The City of McDonough will be closing at 12:30 pm on Tuesday, December 23, 2014 and closed on Wednesday, December 24, 2014 and Thursday, December 25, 2014 in observance of the Christmas Holiday. City offices will re-open on Friday, December 26, 2014 at 9:00 am and will close at 3:00 pm.
There will be no change with the household trash pick up schedule. The recycling and yard waste pick up schedule for Thursday and Friday will be one day late (pick up on Saturday).
Mayor Copeland is a fifth generation Copeland in the City of McDonough, born in the same house as his father. He and his wife, Gloria, have a son, Bill, and a daughter, Allison, and five grandchildren. After graduating from McDonough High School, Billy received an LLB Degree from Atlanta Law School. He also graduated from Greenleaf Business College and attended night school at Georgia State University.
For 35 years, Billy was employed with Norfolk Southern Railway, where he was responsible for the handling of all property tax matters in six of the southeastern states.
Billy has served the City of McDonough for over 30 years as Mayor and as a City Councilmember. In this capacity, he also serves on the Board of Directors of the Henry County Chamber of Commerce, on the Board of Directors of the Georgia Municipal Association, as Vice Chairperson of the Metro-Atlanta Mayor’s Association, and as President of the South Region of the Georgia Municipal Association’s Third District.
In 2012, he was inducted into the Georgia Municipal Association Hall of Fame.
