The Main Street Program is a state program and is coordinated by the Georgia Department of Community Affairs. McDonough's program is financed by the city and many businesses which contribute funds and sponsor events on the McDonough square or in-kind services during the year. Main Street is a community based self help program based on a four point approach for the downtown district within the context of historic preservation and restoring a sense of place in the county seat of McDonough through economic development and downtown revitalization:
The four point approach to REVITALIZATION:
- Organization
- Design
- Economic Restructuring
- Promotion
