Kirby Glaze Comes to McDonough
Recently in McDonough
“I have been wanting to have Kirby Glaze in McDonough ever since I saw what he had
done in Thomasville, Georgia,” said Main Street Director Linda Schenk.
Recently, Director Schenk got her wish. Kirby Glaze spent some time on a
Wednesday afternoon in November in McDonough going through and around two of the
City’s downtown buildings, the Chafin and the Hamilton buildings on the west side of
Griffin Street. Councilmember Sandra Vincent and Director Schenk walked Mr. Glaze
through the Chafin building explaining its history, who the former tenants were, and what
types of businesses have occupied this location.
The three were joined by Kris Cawley, Harry Norman Broker and owner of the old
Hamilton building now home of the Harry Norman Real Estate firm,, as they began a
conversation on the history of that building. Mr. Kirby asked a number of questions and
gained clarity on many aspects, both inside and out, of the two structures.
Why was it important that Kirby Glaze came to McDonough and took time to
familiarize himself with these buildings? Because Kirby Glaze is the President and
Founder of CDP - Community Development Partners, Inc. with locations in Atlanta,
Brunswick, Greenville, Hilton Head Island, Jacksonville, and Tampa.
Because as a practicing attorney, Mr. Glaze has a long history of successes in
community development and public/private partnership project management. These
include economic revitalization projects, civic centers, resorts, housing developments,
downtown historic rehabs and other community partnerships. He possesses a reputation
statewide in representing municipal and government clients including development,
industrial, housing, and recreation authorities in transactions ranging from bond issues,
financial matters, development and construction planning, and oversight of public/private
ventures.
In October, 2009, a CDP project, the Mitchell House Lofts and Condominiums in
Thomasville, was named “Best Commercial Redevelopment Project” in the State by the
Georgia Downtown Association and the Georgia Department of Community Affairs-
Office of Downtown Development. This project provides over $9 million in additional
tax base to that downtown area and provides downtown living space which was not
available before.
