McDonough's City Administrator serves the citizens of McDonough by carrying out the policies and directives of the Mayor and City Council. The City Administrator runs the day-to-day operations of City government, develops and manages the McDonough's annual budget, and oversees all departments and employees of City government. It is the City Administrator's job to ensure that McDonough’s government is operating effectively and efficiently to best serve its citizens. 

City Administrator Beckett has more than thirty years experience in government work including fifteen years as Fayette County Administrator.  His education credentials include a Bachelor of Arts degree from Concord College and a Master of Urban Affairs, Public Management from Virginia Tech.  Mr. Beckett’s career in government administration encompasses four states:  Georgia, Florida, West Virginia and Virginia and includes both city and county administrative positions.  He possesses a strong financial background and comprehensive experience in the preparation and implementation of multi-million dollar operating and capital budgets.  Mr. Beckett is also a longtime NCAA football referee for the Atlantic Coast Conference as well as a referee for the Arena Football League.

The City Clerk is the official record keeper for the City of McDonough and is appointed by the Mayor and Council. Duties include assembling information, creating and distributing the agendas for the bi-monthly Council meetings, maintaining minutes of the Council’s official actions, preserving contracts, resolutions, ordinances and agreements. The City Clerk manages the official records and the preservation of those records for the City. The City Clerk attests the signatures of Mayor and Council and is the official keeper of the City seal and affixes its impression on documents whenever required. The City Clerk updates all changes and additions to the City’s Code of Ordinances; receives and maintains applications from those running for an elected position during City elections; and ensures that all open records requests are made in accordance with the Open Records Act. The City Clerk organizes and oversees the City of McDonough’s annual Christmas Parade. The City Clerk serves and assists the Mayor, City Council and the City Manager as needed.
