GOVERNOR'S EMERGENCY ORDER, EFFECTIVE APRIL 3, 2020, AND EXPIRING APRIL 13, 2020 - EXPLANATION IS ATTACHED TO THE ORDER

                                               APRIL 5, 2020 PROCLAIMED AS DAY OF PRAYER AND FASTING

  • All water cut-offs are suspended until further notice
  • The $5.00 fee charge for electronic water payments will be credited back to each account
  • All City government buildings remain closed to the public until further notice
  • If your phone call isn’t answered promptly, please leave a message and your call will be returned
  • There will be no cut-offs in the month of April and no late fees will be charged in April for commercial and residential customers.
  • All City parks and restrooms are closed until further notice.

Billy Copeland

Billy - Copy for WebsiteMayor Copeland is a fifth generation Copeland in the City of McDonough, born in  the same house as his father. He and his wife, Gloria, have a son, Bill, and a daughter, Allison, and five grandchildren. After graduating from McDonough High School, Billy received an LLB Degree from Atlanta Law School. He also graduated from Greenleaf Business College and attended night school at Georgia State University.

For 35 years, Billy was employed with Norfolk Southern Railway, where he was responsible for the handling of all property tax matters in six of the southeastern states.

Billy has served the City of McDonough for over 30 years as Mayor and as a City Councilmember. In this capacity, he also serves on the Board of Directors of the Henry County Chamber of Commerce, on the Board of Directors of the Georgia Municipal Association, as Vice Chairperson of the Metro-Atlanta Mayor’s Association, and as President of the South Region of the Georgia Municipal Association’s Third District.

In 2012, he was inducted into the Georgia Municipal Association Hall of Fame.
