Councilmember Roger Pruitt is a graduate of Lyons High School in Lyons, Georgia. Roger served four years in the U.S. Air Force. He has an Associate Degree in Civil Technology from Savannah State College and a Certificate in Data Processing and Programming from Savannah Automation School.
Roger retired from the Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) with 34 plus years of service. During his career with the GDOT, he served in several positions that allowed him to participate in preparation and planning of large budgets, personnel management and vision planning. He served as the McDonough Third District City Councilman in 2004 and 2005. Roger has earned multiple certifications through the Carl Vinson Institute of Government. Roger and wife Sharon have lived in the city of McDonough over 21 years. They have been married for 49 plus years and have two grown children. Roger and Sharon have been blessed with wonderful children, daughter-in-law, and three beautiful grandchildren.
What is a Mayor Pro Tem? In January of each year, the Mayor and Council elect a member of the governing body to serve as Mayor Pro Tem. This position is responsible for leading meetings and attending functions in the Mayor’s absence.
What does “at- large” mean? At-large is a designation for members of a governing body who are elected or appointed to represent the whole membership of the body (for example, a city, state or province, nation, club or association), rather than a subset of that membership.
