Building and Inspections

The City of McDonough Building and Inspections Division of the Community Development Department provides  plan review for construction and building activities to ensure that all municipal code requirements are met for construction projects and related activities in the City.

The staff inspects these activities to protect the health, safety and welfare of the citizens by controlling the design, construction, use and occupancy, location and maintenance of buildings and structures.  Inspections also include adherence to the Soil and Erosion Control Regulations where applicable.

Building and subcontractor permits are required prior to starting any construction work in the City, except work specifically exempt from requiring a permit.

Code Enforcement Unit

The Code Enforcement Unit responds to citizens’ complaints pertaining to all code violations within the City.  Complaints may be made via the Code Enforcement Concern Form which can be downloaded from this web site or by calling the Code Enforcement telephone number at (770) 898-3507.  The process includes an on-site visit by the inspector which may result in a verbal warning, followed by a written warning and finally, by issuing a citation with a required appearance in municipal court to resolve the violation.
