'Interim' No Longer Applies
Interim Community Develop Director is the title John Cheek has worn since assuming the leadership role of that particular City of McDonough department this past September. As of the December 12 City Council meeting, the designation ‘Interim’ no longer applies to now permanent Community Development Director to John Cheek. By a vote of 6-0, the Council approved unanimously their approval of Cheek remaining in this position serving the City. Community Development Director Cheek accepted their decision with a big smile.
“I’m very grateful that the Council has shown this faith in me, and I will do everything I can to live up to it,” said Cheek. He further stated, “I’ve said many times that we have some huge opportunities to improve the quality of life in McDonough even more. I’m grateful that the Council has given me the time to assist both the Council and the community in taking full advantage of those opportunities.”
Director Cheek is a registered architect, certified planner and urban designer. He has been in practice for over twenty-five years and has won awards and recognition in all three of these areas. Cheek also brings with him a background in government service, real estate development and historic preservation. He holds a bachelor’s degree in History from the University of Virginia and a Master of Architecture degree from Rice University.
