09-09-08 City Administrator James Lee Announces Retirement

As Mayor of McDonough, I am joined today by the City Council in announcing that after ten years of dedicated service in overseeing and directing the day-to-day operations of our government, City of McDonough Administrator James Lee announced his retirement during a called Council meeting on Saturday, September 6th.

Upon returning from an executive session, McDonough City Attorney Steven M. Fincher, with Fincher, Denmark & Williams, LLC, read the following prepared statement:

This morning, James Lee informed the Mayor and Council of his decision to resign and has tendered his resignation as City Administrator effective February 1, 2009. Mr. Lee’s last day of service shall be October 1, 2008 at which time he will take action to retire under the City’s early retirement incentive program. Mr. Lee has been the City Administrator for ten years. Mayor and Council accept Mr. Lee’s resignation, and on behalf of the citizens of McDonough, thank him for his many years of valuable service.

McDonough has gone through significant growth and major changes over the past ten years, and I know I also speak for the City Council in expressing our gratitude to James Lee for his contributions and guidance through those often difficult and demanding years.

We thank Mr. Lee for his service to our historic city, and we extend our best wishes to him.

Billy Copeland
