08-20-08 Main Street Music on the Square
The
Peeled Onions outlasted the rain that soaked the McDonough Square as
Main Street McDonough's August 16th Music on the Square experienced a
rain delay of approximately one hour before the three member band could
take the stage and kick it into high gear .
The skies were already dark as a crowd gathered in the Square on August 16th for Main Street McDonough's popular Music on the Square. As the threat of rain lingered, everyone watched the gray sky with high hopes that it would hold off until the music ended, wires were unplugged and rolled up, instruments put away protected from the dampness, and the attendees were safely in their vehicles. Not a chance that this scenario would play out just that way. The Peeled Onions, a three member local band, had been playing for about half an hour when a few raindrops began to fall followed immediately by a heavier downpour.
Many of those who had gathered for the evening's concert gave up as the rain continued its relentless attack on the Square. Still a few hardy souls, true Peeled Onions fans, continued their vigilance waiting patiently under colorful umbrellas holding fast to a glimmer of hope that the concert could still take place as some around them folded chairs and headed for their cars.
Those remaining got their wish as the boys in the band, soaked through and through, took to the stage around 8:30 p.m. and soon had the audience rocking and rolling totally wiping away any further thoughts of liquid sunshine. As the band played on, the small group gave way to a large gathering totally enjoying the sounds of The Peeled Onions.
At 10:00 p.m., when the concert was scheduled to end, the crowd yelled for them to keep playing. "More, more," they shouted. The Peeled Onions' drummer and lead singer, Mark Dobson, announced they would do one more song before calling it a night.
This talented threesome will perform at this year's Fall Festival and Chili Cook-off on November 8th taking place this year at Heritage Park located on Lake Dow Road.
