06-20-09 US Army Sgt. David Battle Returns
THIS SATURDAY, JUNE 20, a triple amputee from Operation Iraqi Freedom, US Army Sgt. David Battle, is returning to his local home for the first time since May 1, 2007.
On December 18, 2007, during his second tour, the 27-year old Sgt. Battle nearly lost his life. As he stepped down from his M1A2 Abrams tank to clear the area, he was unaware he was stepping on a hidden improvised explosive device (IED).
As a result of this tragic incident, he suffered severe wounds resulting in the loss of his right leg and hip and his left leg below the knee. His right arm was later amputated above the elbow. His internal injuries caused his stomach to be open for three months, and he lost a portion of his liver. He was on dialysis for over two months and on life support for three. Having been at Walter Reed Army Hospital for the past 18 months, he has undergone over 100 surgeries, with more in his future. He has seen hundreds of hours being fitted for his prosthetics and in physical rehab.
This Saturday, he finally comes back home, so I strongly urge you: LET'S GET OUT AND SHOW OUR SUPPORT FOR THIS LOCAL HERO AND OUR MILITARY! Tell others you know, forward this information if you are able, spread word.
THE MOTORCADE starts at Atlanta Hartsfield-Jackson Airport, comes down Hwy 85 (approx. 1:40 p.m.) to Hwy 54 E (approx. 1:50 p.m.) in Fayetteville, to McDonough Rd To County Line Rd at 2 p.m. Sgt. Battle and his family live on County Line Road in Clayton County.
Local communities are being requested to come out and show support for Sgt. David Battle. Thank you for your time!
