04-17-10 Main Street Holds Annual Car Show

On Saturday, April 17th, over 50 cars were lined up before noon in the parking lot behind the Judicial Building located on John Frank Ward Boulevard.  The Main Street McDonough Program’s annual Classic and Open Car Show was gearing up for a noon start.  The sun was warm, and the vehicles were glistening with hoods and trucks propped open inviting car enthusiasts to linger in admiration at each one.

The crowd was consistent throughout the afternoon, and owners could not wait to discuss their prized possessions with anyone who showed an interest in their obvious labors of love.

“This is a perfect day in McDonough for a car show,” said Main Street Director Linda Schenk.  “We have so many unique and interesting cars in the show this year.  I’ve seen a lot of smiling faces as they walk from car to car.”

Winners were announced between 3:30 and 4:00 pm.  Ten category winners in each division were announced and a plaque presented to each winning owner. Two of the category winners in each division are listed below:

CLASSIC CARS (1972 and Older):

  • Best in Show - 1965 Corvair Convertible
    Owner - Tony Kruzich
  • Ladies Choice - 1967 Chevrolet Corvette
    Owner - Ken Thaxton

OPEN CARS (1973-2009):

  • Best in Show - 2004 Z06 Corvette
    Owner - Ivan Hawkins
  • Ladies Choice - 973 Road Runner
    Owner - Samantha Kirby

“The Main Street McDonough Program would like to thank all those who entered a car in this year’s show, the Main Street Board and Committee members that assisted with this event, and Pop’s Southern Cooking for some delicious hotdogs and hamburgers cooked on Pop’s train engine grill,” added Director Schenk.
